Completing the degree takes one year full-time or two years part-time. To gain entry, students must have a Bachelor degree with a Credit average. Students who complete the degree with a mark of 75 or above can upgrade to the MA by Research and obtain exemptions for the courses they have completed in the Graduate Diploma. Master of Arts by Research

Our MA by Research aims to provide students with the conceptual, practical and critical skills necessary for advanced work in the fields of sex, drugs, body politics and health. The program requires students to take the 6 Units of Credit (UOC) course ‘Bodies, Habits and Pleasures’, and one of the 6 UOC courses in qualitative or quantitative research methods. They can make up the remaining UOC from courses offered elsewhere in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences or the Faculty of Medicine.

The MA by Research is completed in two years full time or four years part time. To gain entry, students must have a good Bachelor degree in arts or social sciences with an Honours year or equivalent research/professional experience. Those who do not meet these prerequisites should consider the Graduate Diploma. Candidates can apply to upgrade from the MA by Research to a PhD subject to satisfactory progress. No HECS fees are payable for the Master of Arts by Research.
